DRAWN TOGETHER - UNCENSORED: SEASON THREE (2PC)

Review

Nothing's sacred in great comedy. Everything becomes a target for a laugh. Enter Drawn Together, one of the most raucously funny animated shows ever to hit cable. Comedy Central hit a homerun with this reality show spoof, featuring the horniest cartoon characters ever committed to cell. The third and unfortunately final season, due out on DVD 5/13, happens to be the best. Take the episode completely butchering the Terminator, turning him into a bi-sexual maniac. Watch out for that cowboy vest at the end. The show's eight main characters are still hilariously irreverent, whether they're whoring themselves out or tormenting each other. It's a trip to the absurd and back, driven by Wooldoor, Toot, Ling-Ling, Foxxy, Xandir, Clara, Spanky, and Captain Hero.

The real power of Drawn Together comes from its satirization of reality TV. As a nation, we're addicted to watching our "peers" interact in "normal" situations. However, The Real World and shows of that ilk have blown everything way out of proportion, and there's nothing "real" about them. There's no way nine attractive people would ever find themselves living together in one house, first off. You'll never even find nine attractive people out at the same club together. However, at least eight cartoon characters have something in common. They're all cartoons, and those cartoons have more personality than their reality show counterparts. Adam Carolla voices Spanky the pig, and his droll delivery still elicits roars of laughter. There's an especially funny scene where he references giving his left testicle up for instance. The film's random Family Guy-style flashbacks, like the Spelling Bee vignette in one episode, are downright hilarious because of how abruptly rife with pop culture references they are.

Granted, some jokes get a little old by the tenth episode, such as the makers continually exploiting how horny the characters are. Nevertheless, Captain Hero's lines are often priceless. While trying to nail Clara the princess, he charms her with this nugget: "I'd kill any number of innocent things for just one date with you." No one's ever gone to those lengths to prove passion on Flavor of Love, perhaps one of the contestants should? She, of course, is smitten. Once she agrees to go out with Captain Hero, in prom queen fashion he responds, "You'll like go out with me?" It's totally a tongue-in-cheek rip at reality TV's jugular, and it's surprisingly effective coming from an oversized cartoon superhero.

The on-camera interviews between scenes are brilliant—especially anything that Wooldoor says. The DVD features extended, un-cut episodes for maximum laughs, and there's an interactive karaoke feature that allows viewers to get even closer together with the cartoon cast. The uncensored version allows the jokes to hit even harder. Captain Hero does blow in one episode to "fly," and there's never any lack of sex on the show.

Drawn Together takes no prisoners in its third season. Everyone from car crash fetishists and religious fanatics to R. Kelly, Gary Coleman and The Spellings get tagged with a joke. However, it's all in good fun, and what do you expect from eight psychos trapped in a house together? It's real.
