Like his first best-of, Best of DJ Melo-Mix, Pt. 1: Ride or Die, his second, The Blunt Burner, isn't really a best-of but rather a particularly considered mix. Melo-Mix again lays a cappellas over instrumentals, often transitioning mid-track, and again pitches most tracks down, giving them a mellow feel. For instance, he mixes the vocal to Dr. Dre's "The Watcher" over the beat to Busta Rhymes' "Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See," then Q-Tip's "Vibrant Thing" over the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Hypnotize," and so on. Some of the transitions are a little more abrupt than you'd expect, but it's the creative combinations that stand out most here, as Melo-Mix shows love for all coasts, often simultaneously. As with the first volume, the confusing track sequencing is frustrating; however, because The Blunt Burner is an album that flows best from beginning to end, it's not that big of an issue, particularly when practically every track is a recognizable hit. ~ Jason Birchmeier, All Music Guide
