This 2005 repackaging was released in time for Neil Diamond's 2005 American tour and contains Columbia/Legacy's 2002 compilation The Essential Neil Diamond as well as a DVD of the 1988 home video Greatest Hits Live, all housed in a double-clamshell jewel box with no new extras. Most die-hard fans will have both of these releases, but casual fans who want a compilation that contains a good sampling of early Bang recordings and latter-day Columbia hits but live versions of tunes from the early '70s (that were hits in studio versions released by Uni), along with a document of a latter-day live show, should pick this up. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
