    All Music Guide Review

The soundtrack to the film Pompatus of Love features a number of pop/rock songs from the '70s, '80s, and '90s that have absolutely nothing to do with each other. Everything from the arena rock of Steve Miller (whose "The Joker" has a lyric, which happened to be stolen from Vernon Green & the Medallions, that provides the film with its title) and southern rock of Little Feat to the new wave of Midge Ure and the industrial metal of Course of Empire is included. With this much variety, it isn't surprising that Pompatus of Love is nearly unlistenable -- this isn't eclectic, it's incoherent. Individually, some of the songs are fine, but when they are thrown together in this fashion, it results in an unlistenable mess. It's only for diehard fans of the film itself. ~ Stephen Thomas Erlewine, All Music Guide
