    Released through Capitol, Grammy R&B/Rap Nominees 2001 rounds up 17 nominees from several categories in the fields of R&B and rap. The Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group (Beastie Boys, Dr. Dre), Best Rap Solo Performance (Nelly, Eminem, DMX, Common, Mystikal), Best Female R&B Vocal Performance (Erykah Badu, Aaliyah, Toni Braxton, Kelly Price, Jill Scott), and Best Male R&B Vocal Performance (R. Kelly, Brian McKnight, Sisqó, Joe, D'Angelo) categories are represented. The Grammys are rarely a good indication of what highlighted the year in question, but taken out of that context, the disc remains a decent compilation of time-specific hits.
