    All Music Guide Review

Despite the fact that his previous three albums had become successful due to the release of some superb singles, Dave Graney decided he wanted to make an album that didn't contain any obvious singles. The result is The Devil Drives.

Nowhere near as accessible as his previous work, The Devil Drives was released to critical ambivalence and as a result it wasn't as popular as Graney's other work from the '90s. It's still a good album, but it lacks the hooks that made so much of his other albums irresistible. The exception is the last-minute inclusion to the album, the stomping glam of "Feelin' Kinda Sporty," which was Graney's finest single release since "I'm Gonna Release Your Soul."

This was the last Coral Snakes studio album, as Graney disbanded the group soon after the release of The Devil Drives. ~ Jonathan Lewis, All Music Guide
