    Simon Cowell Takes "One Chance"

    Wed, 25 Jun 2008 09:33:49

Not with an "American Idol" contestant, either

Acid-tongued American Idol critic Simon Cowell is adding another credit to his resume. The music business veteran, who started out in music publishing and worked his way up the ranks to A&R rep and eventually to record producer, is set to produce One Chance, a biopic of sorts about the ups and downs of amateur opera singer Paul Potts.

It's a fitting project for Cowell, who is known for realizing and destroying dreams with his slicing criticisms on Idol. Potts tried to make the shift into popular music by appearing on the Idol-like TV show Britain's Got Talent. Cowell was a judge on that show as well, and was impressed with Potts' performance. Potts eventually won the top prize on the show and embarked on a world tour, released an album and became a mild pop music sensation. The film is expected to be a dramedy that chronicles the singer's tough climb to the top.

Justin Zackham, a producer on the hit comedy The Bucket List, has been dispatched the write the screenplay.
