Katherine Heigl has proven that she can hopscotch between film and television with relative ease. The Grey's Anatomy star became a name player in Hollywood last summer with her role in Knocked Up and she continues to pull in meatier big screen parts as a result. The bankable actress has just accepted the lead in Escape, based on the best-selling memoir by Carolyn Jessop, who helped bring down polygamist leader Warren Jeffs.
Additionally, Heigl will serve in a producer capacity on the film, which will be released by Relevant Entertainment. Her character is a lifelong Mormon born into the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Jessop fled the sect when she was 35 years of age, taking her eight children with her. She was the first woman to be granted custody of her kids in a contested suit involving the FLDS organization.
In other Heigl news, the brazen actress took herself out of contention for an Emmy this year, claiming she didn't think the material she was given to work with on her hit medical drama was that good, and therefore, her work doesn't warrant a nomination this year.
